As your travel date approaches, the cost of this flight route may potentially increase. While opting to book 25 days out may not be an option for all, there are still additional ways to secure a deal in the near future. You might find a flight from Miami to Charlotte 1-2 weeks in advance for as low as $150, or $304 for flights within the next 24 hours. Our flight was on time and unremarkable which I'm grateful for, as it is not the norm traveling these days. Frontier is a low-cost carrier and it really shows when compared to other "normal" carriers.

There were no snacks or drinks on our flight there wasn’t even much turbulence. This flight was not enjoyable nor was it what a Delta flight should be and just this past week I flew with Delta 3 times. Delayed due to an ill passenger after loading.

They lost my baggage on my connection flight, it’s been 24 hours since I put my claim in and still no update on my bags. 30 minute delay due to boarding and settling of a family. I liked the ease of checking in, luggage check in, wheel chair assistance, boarding and flight. Entire process from checking bags to flight to landing to luggage retrieval was very smooth. Bought seats on the flight and they were supposed to be 2 and a jumpseat. Plane clearly changed and it was a regular 3 seat row.

Better yet — we are completely free to use. Flights from Miami to Charlotte are found to be more expensive on Sunday. This shouldn't discourage you from searching as you can still find great deals by being flexible with your options.
Prefer to fly non-stop from Miami to Charlotte?
Not preventable on Delta's part. The seats are becoming worn and detaching from their velcro attachments. The attendant was not the friendliest. Flying to your destination on a Saturday can be more expensive, but this shouldn’t discourage you from finding affordable options to get to Miami. Check prices with Cheapflights to find a great deal for your trip. Flight delayed 3 times, resulting in late arrival, rental car place gave car away resulting in increased BS charges because I was late.
Non-stop flights to Miami from Charlotte
The flight was delayed but we got to our final destination. I would fly again the whole experience was great. The only feed back I can give that they don't do that American Airlines does is the crew there is more humorous with boarding and thank their passengers. It makes it more fun to fly with them.

She sent me on my way without my orange tag. Was a bit embarrassing for me the tone she used with me assuming I was trying to get away with something. Find which airlines fly direct from Miami to Douglas, which days they fly and book direct flights.
I am HIGHLY unhappy with the amount of money I spent on the flight. Paid in advance only to find the flight at a discount price a week or so before the flight. I will not fly frontier again and have bad mouthed your business since to anyone I have spoken with about flying (which has been many a people). Crew was mediocre and instead of moving me to a spot where I could gain some leg room they sat their flight attendant there. Won’t be flying frontier in the future. There was no wifi, there was no usb charger on the planes Frontier lowered the weight limit on suitcases from 50 to 40 pounds Frontier now charges for a seat...really?
We make finding flights to Miami quick and easy, saving you time and money. The flight was canceled, then delayed twice, we were moved gates twice. Short staff at the counter and check in. We waited for our flight 9 hours. Will never use Frontier ever again, or Spirit. First time flying with Frontier .
From buying tickets ,getting boarding pass and boarding plane was super easy. Definitely would fly again with Frontier . Every Allegiant Air flight I've ever taken has been delayed. This flight was delayed a full 2 hours. It was excuse after excuse after excuse.
Good over all but my flight from. Miami to Barbados the airplane was very dirty like I have never seen before. It looked like that plane hasn’t been cleaned in a long time and I fly about one time a month. Bundle and saveSave money when you bundle your flight + hotel. Regardless of the time of day you decide to fly, the ticket price will remain around the same.

The Luxury Palette in Pillow Talk is a pretty, feminine every day eyeshadow palette with four shimmer and matte shades, featuring champagne pink, matte dusky rose, soft matte brown and a rose gold sparkle. Pillow Talk Desk Eyes (Smoke) is a medium-dark brown with moderate, warm undertones and a matte finish. The texture was smooth to the touch, finely-milled, and slightly firmer in the pan compared to other shades (but no powderiness at all).
THIS IS MY BEAUTY SECRET TO A SPARKLING PILLOW TALK NUDE-PINK GAZE, DREAMY DEFINITION & THE LASHES OF YOUR DREAMS!
Pillow Talk Dream Eyes (Enhance) is a medium-dark red with warmer undertones and a metallic sheen. The consistency was smooth, lightly creamy, and easy to work with. It had opaque pigmentation that applied evenly and blended out well along the edges. This shade wore nicely for eight and a half hours before fading a bit. Pillow Talk Day Eyes (Enhance) is a light copper with moderate, warm undertones and a smooth, metallic sheen with faint pink and gold micro-sparkle. It had rich color coverage that applied evenly to bare skin and blended out well along the edges.

Nordstrom gets first access to the release beginning today (for this as well as the Pillow Talk blush, which I reviewed late last year). It's a drier, dustier set of shades, and the monochromatic nature of it didn't come together as well as I expected as they shades ran too much into each other. If the last shade was a few shades deeper, it would have made the quad more versatile and more likely to work across skin tones. The frostiness of the first shade didn't jive as well with the mattes, and it all ended up looking dusty on my lid. Debating whether to buy this or the Pillow Talk quad, as this palette is quite the investment.
Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk 12-Pan Eye Palette ($75.00 for 0.24 oz.) is a new, limited edition palette featuring an assortment of warm-toned neutrals and pops of pink. The brand’s mattes tend to swatch deeper than they appear, so the palette was a bit more versatile and deeper in practice than it appeared initially. Pillow Talk Dream Eyes (Smoke) is a brighter, pinky-red with neutral-to-warm undertones and a matte finish. The pigmentation was opaque in a single layer, while the texture was smooth, velvety, and substantial without being too powdery nor too firmly-pressed into the pan.
From the first two trios you can kind of get the same look as in the quad, though I prefer the Day Smoke shade than the pink in the Original Pillow Talk quad. Absolutely love the Smoke in the Date look, I think it would look beautiful on green eyes. For those who love these shades, I’m sure it’s a wonderful palette but for me, it’s an easy “no”. Now, my dresser drawers are littered with perfume bottles, and I'm constantly testing out new products, which is why when I heard Charlotte Tilbury was again dipping her toe into the world of fragrance, I was intrigued. The brand launched a limited-edition fragrance in 2016, but the new collection was supposed to be entirely different.

The texture was smooth, velvety, and more substantial with a touch of powderiness, which seemed present in the pan but yielded no fallout during application. It had rich color coverage that wore nicely for eight hours before showing signs of fading. Charlotte is now sharing the beauty DNA and secrets of supermodels, stars and screen sirens, and unveiling them to the world! Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk Eyeshadow Quad ($52.00 for 0.18 oz.) is a new set of rosy neutrals with two mattes and two shimmers that's supposed to be a permanent extension of the Pillow Talk family.
It had opaque color payoff that adhered well to bare skin and blended out without difficulty. Pillow Talk Date Eyes (Enhance) is a medium-dark brown with moderate, warm undertones and a matte finish. The color payoff was opaque in one layer, which adhered evenly to bare skin and blended out without difficulty. The eyeshadow felt soft without being too powdery, which made it easy to work with as I didn’t have issues blending nor with fallout. Pillow Talk Desk Eyes (Prime) is a medium-dark peach with warm, orange undertones and a matte finish.

The eyeshadow had nearly opaque color payoff that was buildable with a second layer. The texture was soft, somewhat powdery, and it sheered out a little when applied and blended out on my skin. It stayed on well for seven and a half hours before fading noticeably.

At the time of the murder, Rivers was living in San Jose, and NBC Bay Area reports that Rivers was a security guard licensed to carry a weapon. The profile I found of Rivers on “The Living Room” does say that she struggled with drug and alcohol addiction for many years but at that time (which seems to be 2004) had been clean for 11 years. It’s worth noting that Rivers is white and the three people she killed are (to the best of my knowledge) of color, and last week saw a rash of racially-motivated hate crimes following the election of Donald Trump. Rivers had pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity, but her lawyers said that in any case, she did not kill the three victims. The trial was delayed so long "in part because doctors were debating her mental health status and preparing reports for the court," the paper reports.
Media attention
Rivers became a national advocate for transgender rights in 1999 after she was fired from her teaching position Center High School in Antelope, Calif., outside Sacramento. At the time, Rivers alleged that she was fired for discussing her transition with her teenage students. Today, Rivers was charged with three counts of murder with special circumstances, arson, and possession of metal knuckles. She may be sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole and could also be eligible for the death penalty, depending on the judgment of the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office. Patricia Wright worked in the Berkeley Unified School District for nine years, first as a sign language interpreter, then as a special ed teacher, and then as an elementary school teacher at Berkeley Arts Magnet.
Tomekia Reed steps down as head women’s basketball coach at Jackson State
If it finds she was legally insane, she will be "sent to a mental hospital until she's cured and/or for as long as she'd serve in prison for a triple murder conviction," the paper notes. Tuesday night, some 50 pro-Israeli counter-protesters, many of them dressed in black and wearing white masks, lobbed fireworks at those in the encampment and attempted to dismantle the barricades. Her father Frederick Alfred Rhead began his career as an apprentice at Mintons where he learnt the art of pâte-sur-pâte ceramic decoration from Marc-Louis Solon. Frederick A. Rhead went on to work at a number of potteries including a failed venture of his own. Charlotte's elder brother, Frederick Hurten Rhead, became a well-known pottery designer in the USA. Reed has had interviews and offers with other colleges, including after leading the Tigers to the NCAA Tournament in 2022 and last month. She reportedly interviewed at Tulane and Tennessee about a week after Jackson State's 2024 season ended. Reed thanked God, her son Carlon, family, friends, her agent, and the 49ers' administration.
She then “began to make spontaneous statements about her involvement in the murders” and attempted to flee on her motorcycle. Tomekia Reed has been named the ninth women’s basketball head coach for the Charlotte 49ers. Reed, a three-time HBCU National Coach of the Year, comes to Charlotte following a highly successful six-year stint as head coach of the Jackson State Tigers. "Authorities say Rivers became wrapped up in her identity as an enforcer for an outlaw motorcycle club and sought revenge against Reed after she left the Deviants," the paper reports. But Rivers and Reed made up to the point that Reed allowed Rivers to spend the night on October 11, 2016, at the home Reed and her wife, Patricia Wright, shared in Oakland. She has spent the past six years awaiting trial, in part because doctors were debating her mental health status and preparing reports for the court, records show.

What's Current: Trans activist, Dana Rivers, found guilty of triple murder.
But her defense argued that Rivers, then 61, was incapable of killing three people on her own and said there must have been someone else at the house at the time. Rivers had an "on-again, off-again" friendship with one of the victims, Charlotte Reed, according to The MercuryNews. Their friendship soured after Reed left an all-women motorcycle club, the Deviants, in which Rivers was also a member. A transgender activist has been convicted of the 2016 murders of a lesbian couple and their son in Oakland, Calif. Prosecutors alleged she shot and stabbed Reed and Wright, then shot Diambu-Wright when he came to investigate what was happening.

Why Charlotte women's basketball hired Tomekia Reed
Hostilities outside the encampment had been simmering since demonstrators took over Royce Quad last Thursday, setting up dozens of tents and surrounding themselves with metal fences and wood pallets. In a tragic twist, Dana Rivers was actually a very well-known transgender activist. She was in the Navy, was married three times, and worked for a decade as a Democratic political consultant in Orange County before she moved to Northern California, got a teaching certificate, and began teaching in 1991.

Jackson State will begin a national search immediately for Reed’s replacement. Charlotte athletic director Mike Hill said Reed was the top candidate from the start. According to Officer Hector Jiminez, police arrived at the scene to find Rivers covered in blood and carrying knives, ammunition and brass knuckles. Prosecutors said Rivers shot Reed and Wright as they slept that night, then slashed their bodies with a knife. She then shot Wright's 19-year-old son, Benny Toto Diambu-Wright, when he arrived to investigate what was happening, according to the prosecution. An Alameda County jury convicted Dana Rivers of San Jose November 17, The [San Jose] Mercury News reports. Beginning December 5, the jury will consider whether Rivers was legally insane at the time of the killings.

The truth is that two lesbians and one teenager who were beloved in their communities were murdered last week, and that we are thankful that their murderer was apprehended and imprisoned and will be punished. We owe this family honor and respect and grief, rather than using their deaths to further push our own community apart, and will not tolerate comments that pursue that kind of divisive agenda. Years earlier, Rivers was a teacher at a high school in Antelope, Calif., where she made headlines by coming out as trans to her students. The school district fired her, and she sued and ultimately received a settlement of $150,000. She eventually moved from Antelope, which is near Sacramento, to the Bay Area and became an activist for trans rights. Rivers was covered in blood and in possession of three weapons when police arrived and quickly arrested her, the Mercury News reports.
She retired from BUSD in 2015, and began working as a part-time computer prep teacher at Esperanza Elementary School in Oakland. The defense argued it was preposterous to suggest Rivers killed three people on her own, at age 61, and argued a fifth person must have been inside the home that night. Prosecutors argued Rivers spent weeks gaining Reed’s trust, arranged to spend the night, waited for the victims to fall asleep, then used a gun equipped with a silencer to shoot Reed and Wright in their beds. Dana Rivers, 67, of San Jose, murdered Charlotte Reed, 56, her wife Patricia Wright, 57, and Wright’s 19-year-old son, Benny Toto Diambu-Wright, on Oct. 11, 2016, the jury found.
Speaking at the 2020 Surface Navy Association Symposium, Tomahawk program manager John Red said the Navy would retire its Block III Tomahawks and update its Block IV units to the new configuration, which adds modern guidance systems and extends... This website is using a security service to protect itself from online attacks. There are several actions that could trigger this block including submitting a certain word or phrase, a SQL command or malformed data. The missile has been able to stay at the $1 million price range, which is on the low end for missiles. Raytheon’s supersonic SM-6 can reach speeds of Mach 3.5 – with future iterations believed to be capable of reaching hypersonic speeds – but cost more than four times as much per shot and have less range.
Why have I been blocked?
Post-World War II, Japan’s armed forces have been legally forbidden from using force outside of self-defense of Japanese soil, even in event of an attack on nearby allies. It has thus avoided procurement of weapons systems like aircraft carriers deemed to have mostly offensive missions. However, increasing tensions with North Korea and China’s rapidly improving military have complicated Japan’s self defense stance. In May 2022, the UK announced that its stock of Block IV TLAM munitions were to be upgraded to the Block V variant for specific use in the Astute-class submarines. The Block V, according to UK Defence Equipment and Support, an arm of the Ministry of Defence, would have a longer range than the Block IV at up to 1,000 miles, and also has updated in-flight communications and target selection.
Block IV
As of now, the United States and the United Kingdom are the only countries to deploy Tomahawk missiles, although Australia and Japan have put out bids to purchase Tomahawks. The actual payload of the Tomahawk can consist of a number of different munitions. But the primary warhead of the Tomahawk is a 1,000-pound high explosive charge. It can also carry cluster munitions consisting of small bomblets, similar to the ATACMS currently used in Ukraine. For explosive force, Tomahawks were more than enough to disable runways or sink ships.
US Air Force Opens Competition to Develop Low-Cost Cruise Missiles - The Defense Post
US Air Force Opens Competition to Develop Low-Cost Cruise Missiles.
Here’s why the Marine Corps is getting Tomahawk cruise missiles
The truth is that advanced naval warfare is a very costly endeavor, especially when it comes to defending one's fleet or destroying the enemy's fleet with guided missiles. Raytheon received a $122m contract from the US Navy in March 2015 for the production of 114 Tomahawk Block IV all-up round missiles. Raytheon conducted an active seeker test flight for the Tomahawk Block IV cruise missile in January 2016.
What are Tomahawk missiles and do we need them?
Prime Minister Fumio Kishida’s government has pledged to double its annual defense spending to around 10 trillion yen ($68 billion) by 2027, which would make Japan the world’s third-biggest military spender after the United States and China. The US has been the biggest user of Tomahawk missiles since it was first designed by General Dynamics in the 1970s. Australia is about to get 220 Tomahawk missiles, which could cost as much as $1.3 billion if the sale goes through. What is presented below are the unit costs, rounded to the nearest dollar, that the Navy expects to pay for these weapons in the 2021 Fiscal Year as they appear in the official budget documents. The Netherlands has also confirmed that it would acquire the Block V Tomahawk for use in its De Zeven Provinciën-class frigates. US military services have been keen to introduce the new Block V into their inventories, with a series of contracts providing industrial impetus for RTX and its supplier base.
Navigation
The Tomahawk family of missiles includes a number of variants, carrying different warheads. The UGM-109A Tomahawk (Block II TLAM-A) carries a W80 nuclear warhead. Today’s guided missile cruisers carry 122 silos, while destroyers carry between 90 and 96 silos.
What is the Maritime Strike Tomahawk cruise missile?
That’s the Tomahawk’s key differentiator, said Jerry Hendrix, a retired Navy captain and analyst with Telemus Group. The first iteration of the Block V upgrades the missile’s communication and navigation systems. This is about making it tougher to counter and detect electronically, said Bryan Clark, a retired submarine officer and senior fellow at The Hudson Institute. According to budget data from the United States Marine Corps from 2022, each Tomahawk costs around $2 million.
Everything To Know About Tomahawk Missiles: Speed, Cost, And Destructive Power
The Tomahawk was first deployed in combat in the 1991 Gulf War in Operation Desert Storm, with the first salvo launched from the USS Paul F. Foster (DD 964) at Iraqi targets.18 Overall, the mission achieved initial success. “What’s happening in parallel is in the development of hypersonic missile that are a smaller form factor than the boost-glide weapons that are coming to maturity now,” Clark said. “And if they can get it down to being able to fit in [the Mark 41], then that could provide the Navy a next-generation capability that is more survivable and has a shorter time of flight. In 2017, Raytheon’s Tomahawk program manager told reporters at an event at the missile plant in Tucson, Ariz., that the navigation system upgrades will ensure the missile can strike targets even if GPS is taken down.
Harpoon Block II
The 4,000th Tomahawk Block IV missile was delivered to the US Navy in August 2017. The US Navy warships and submarines launched 66 GPS-enabled Tomahawk missiles at Syrian chemical weapon facilities in 2018. The plan, Red explained, was to upgrade all Block IV Tomahawks to a new Block V standard with improved guidance and extended range.
As the TERCOM scans the landscape, the Tomahawk missile is capable of twisting and turning like a radar-evading fighter plane, skimming the landscape at an altitude of only 30–90 metres (100–300 feet). Many of America's warships set sail absolutely packed with missiles. A single Ticonderoga class guided-missile cruiser has 122 Mark 41 vertical launch system (VLS) cells, each of which can handle one of a wide array of individual missiles, or four Evolved Sea Sparrow Missiles (ESSMs). Even America's carriers are bristling with missile-based point defenses. While the capabilities the Navy's array of ship-launched missiles provides are fairly well known, at least conceptually, the staggering cost of each of these weapons is not.
The US military confirmed February 8 its forces conducted multiple strikes against Houthi missile systems as the Yemen-based, Iran-backed group prepared to launch attacks that threatened US Navy and merchant ships. Army selected the Navy’s Standard Missile-6 (SM-6) and the BGM-109 Tomahawk for its Mid-Range Capability (MRC), part of the service’s ground-launched strike modernization effort. Following the selection, the Army awarded a $339.3 million contract to integrate both weapons for a ground-based launcher by late 2022. Raytheon’s Tomahawk Block V, when fully realized in its Block Va and Block Vb varieties, will be expected to hit surface ships at Tomahawk ranges – in excess of 1,000 miles – with the integration of a new seeker. It also will integrate a new warhead that will have a broader range of capabilities, including greater penetrating power. Raytheon planned to undertake recertification and modernisation programmes for Tomahawk Block IV missile in 2019 to add maritime strike capability and multiple-effects warhead upgrades to the missiles.
Most missiles are designed to sprint to their targets; Tomahawk is designed to run a marathon. Engineers chose a liquid fuel-sipping turbojet engine because it enabled greater range than a rocket engine of roughly the same size. A slower speed also makes low altitude flight more viable, which in turn makes the missile much more difficult to detect by radar.
One question remains the choice of launch platform, as air-, sea-, submarine- and land-based options reportedly were considered. The cheapest option would be land-based trucks, but warships and aircraft would effectively expand the range and possible approach vectors of Japan’s Tomahawks. Presently, reports suggest they’ll begin deployment on Japan’s powerful destroyers, which already come with the same Mark 41 Vertical Launch Systems used by U.S. The latest Block V model re-introduces anti-ship capability in a subvariant called the Block Va Maritime Strike Tomahawk, integrating a radar seeker that enables it to home in on moving ships.
The submarines USS Louisville and USS Pittsburgh launched Tomahawks in 1991 at targets in Iraq and became the first submarines to fire Tomahawks while submerged. Raytheon received a $349m contract for phase two of the Maritime Strike Tomahawk Rapid Deployment Capability to improve the Tomahawk cruise missile system in August 2019. Work will be executed in various locations across the US until February 2023. The US signed a foreign military sales (FMS) agreement with the UK in 1995 to supply 65 Tomahawks for use with the Royal Navy nuclear submarines. The Tomahawk Block IV missiles were converted and upgraded to Block V in 2017. The upgraded Tomahawk includes extended range, enhanced navigation and communication systems and modernised data-link radio.
Theoretically, a cruiser could carry up to 122 Block Va missiles, though a more rounded mix of all of the above is preferred. Late last year, Japan’s Cabinet eased a ban on exports of lethal weapons, allowing the sale of Japanese-made weapons and components made under license from other nations to those countries. The government quickly approved a shipment of Japanese-made Patriot missiles to the United States to complement the U.S. inventory. Block V was introduced in 2021 and is the latest variant of the Tomahawks. It's more advanced, can hit moving targets at sea and can hit more diverse land targets.

He holds a Master’s degree from Georgetown University and served with the Peace Corps in China. Tokyo’s inquiries on purchasing Tomahawks back in 2013 were initially coolly received due to fears of aggravating China. However, given worsened US-China military tensions—particularly over Taiwan, which Japan also seeks to aid—and reinvigorated U.S.

Typically, they will spend almost all of their time in the control area, which is located in the middle of the bridge on most ships. This allows the captain, as well as other members of the bridge crew, to rest and recuperate without needing to travel far. In an emergency scenario, the captain and their crew must be able to return to the bridge in as little time as possible. Towards the front of the bridge, you will often find a lowered observation and lookout deck. This area allows the captain and crew to get a clear view of the path ahead without blocking the view of crew members still at their stations. These days the vast majority of the navigational equipment is electrical.

Naturally, this is where the ship’s navigational equipment is located, including radar systems, GPS tracking equipment, and various chart plotting systems. You can also find backup navigation charts in these areas, which are used as a fail-safe if the ship’s navigational equipment fails. Some cruise ships offer cruise tours to passengers onboard, so check your onboard activities to see if you can book one.
Lookouts and junior officers perform general duties on the bridge for larger cruise ships. They should have a basic understanding of most roles on the bridge, so they can step in when required. The captain will spend most of their time on the bridge in the command center. From here, they will oversee all operations within the bridge, including everything from navigation decisions to safety drills. With some of the larger cruise ships, where a large crew is required to be on the bridge at all times, there may also be small living quarters towards the back of the bridge.
The generators power electric motors, and the electric motors move the propellers. The gyro compass consists of a fast-rotating disk, usually positioned in a gimbal. It is a non-magnetic compass oriented parallel to the axis of rotation of the earth and thus indicates the north-south direction. GPS and satellite navigation systems provide accurate positioning data, helping the crew determine the ship’s location and course with precision. Go Away Travel bills itself as "the bridge cruise leader since 1997," and the company sells themed cruises aboard ships in the fleets of Holland America, Royal Caribbean and Regent Seven Seas Cruises.
How to tour the bridge on a cruise ship?
Essentially, a cruise ship bridge is a dedicated control room near the front of the ship. Ship bridges are located towards the front of a cruise ship in an elevated position, allowing the captain and other crew within the bridge to have an unobstructed view of what is ahead of the vessel. In this video, Captain Kate McCue, the first American female captain of a cruise ship, takes us on a cruise ship bridge tour of the Celebrity Equinox. The communication area of the bridge is where the cruise ship’s primary communications systems are located.
These voyages can be booked on ships like Royal Caribbean's Harmony of the Seas or Liberty of the Seas, and Crystal Serenity. Well-known bridge champion and author Larry Cohen hosts many of the cruises. These voyages sell out quickly so book as soon as a Regionals at Sea itinerary is announced. Cruise lines often make these live feeds publicly available on their websites or their YouTube channels. If you’re considering going on a cruise, this is a great way to get a feel of the captain’s view, regardless of your location.
Cruise Ship Bridge Tours
While some will allow a small number of passengers to have a limited tour of the bridge, mainly while the ship is in port, the area is almost always only accessible to authorized personnel. This improved visibility allows the crew to more accurately gauge the distance to a docking platform, as well as any potential hazards to either side of the ship. To ensure an unobstructed view, the two navigation areas are almost always located at the front of the bridge or on an elevated platform. A wheelhouse and a bridge on modern-day ships essentially refer to the same thing, the only difference being their size. There are also multiple monitors displaying varying navigational information.
To give you a better understanding of the interior of a cruise ship’s command center, here are the main areas of a cruise ship bridge and the purposes they serve. The term “ship bridge” was used well before modern-day cruise ships were established. Originally, the term referred to a raised platform built at the top of a ship’s deck to give the ship’s captain a better view of the path ahead. Since all of the equipment in the engine room is highly dependent on electricity, modern cruise ships also have back-up generators, usually located outside the main engine room, to protect them in case of fire. In case the back-up generators fail, cruise ships are also equipped with a back-up battery that allows some of these functions to continue running for short periods of time. The ECDIS allows for navigation of the ship without the need of traditional paper charts.
Neither bridge were of the same size as the Great Belt Bridge, though. This 20-mile journey took Odyssey of the Seas over 10 hours to complete, as she could only sail 2-3 knots per hour. Like Icon of the Seas, Allure of the Seas, along with all other Oasis and Quantum Class ships, were all built with retractable funnels. Icon of the Seas' time in Cadiz is one of the final steps before she's able to begin sailing from Miami, Flordia in January 2024.
Accordingly, the bridge of a deliver is the location from which the number one functions of directing and controlling the velocity are actioned. You may pay attention the bridge of the deliver cited in passing, but it’s now not a place of the ship most passengers ever get to peer. Like many other regions, there isn’t really a “bad” time to visit Hawaii. Certain times of year are preferable than others based on one factor, but another time of year will be more desirable based on another factor. There are two key times to book your Cruise vacation to save the most money. Typically, there is a very fair penalty period and a tiered system of deposits allowing would-be cruisers to pay an amount proportionate to the duration or category of their sailing. For example, a 3-night Bahamas vs the 7-night Mediterranean; or an interior cabin vs a suite. There is no guaranteed, secret formula for scoring a beverage package or balcony upgrade, but savvy planners should consider booking an adventure with Royal Caribbean during Wave Season.
Caribbean and Bahamas
The cruise season in Canada and New England begins in May and ends in October, with a few ships even making the voyage in April. You'll find more ships in this region between August and October as it gets closer to peak leaf-peeping season. The two shoulder seasons – from April to early June and September to October – offer comfortable temperatures, but you'll need to dress in layers.

You'll also need to plan for mosquitos in port and for serious sun protection. Most of the Caribbean averages a UV index of 7 (considered a high risk) during the summer months, holding at a high or extremely high level for long stretches of the day. These are the months when you rarely need to worry about weather shutting down onboard water attractions or causing cancellations of your in-port fun. Summer months are also perfect for multi-generational cruising, as they are often the only months when everyone's schedules align. And when you have a group to manage, you need as many activities as possible to keep everyone entertained. Summer cruises in the Caribbean make that easy with plenty of options, both on board and in port.
The best time to cruise the Mediterranean
That's why we've broken down when you should cruise everywhere from the Caribbean and Mexico to New England and Alaska. All of these cruise destinations are considered Mediterranean, along with Monaco, the southern coasts of France and Spain, and even Israel. Ports in Portugal are also included in Mediterranean cruise itineraries. Even though it doesn't have any coastline on the Mediterranean Sea, Portugal is considered part of the Mediterranean region. October is one of the wettest months in Alaska, so prepare for low clouds and rain. Alaska weather in October is manageable if you pack the right gear and protective clothing.
To help you figure out when you should best aim for taking a cruise, we’re breaking down our recommendations by region. Luxury cruises offer the highest level of comfort and service with upscale amenities and exclusive experiences. Expedition cruises focus on exploring remote and exotic destinations such as the Arctic, Antarctica, or the Galapagos Islands. As a rule of thumb, it’s much cheaper to sail when school is in session.
Can I book a cruise at the last minute?
Peak season for Western Mediterranean cruises runs from April through November, with stops generally in Spain, France, Italy and Malta. May and late-October Canada and New England cruises are the cheapest times to cruise, but don't expect to be using the onboard swimming pool much. The Bermuda hurricane season lasts from June through November, as it does for the Caribbean and U.S. But the island is generally far less likely to be struck than either of those regions, and a strike is most common between late August and October. While Australia's weather varies, winter temperatures between June and early September are rarely as extreme in North America.
Best Time To Book A Cruise In 2024
Whether you want to have a summer vacation or a winter getaway, the weather somewhere in the Caribbean is always warm and welcoming. Western cruises also become popular in the later part of winter because they go to places that usually have a dry season combined with warmer temperatures. They include Jamaica, Grand Cayman, Cozumel, Roatan, Costa Maya and Belize. As a result, both months are the least popular times of the year to vacation in the Caribbean. June and November are the least risky months during the hurricane season because they usually have the fewest tropical storms and hurricanes.
As well, when winter has gripped most of North America, the Caribbean still offers a warm getaway with lots of sunshine. But they also have the lowest temperatures of any islands in the Caribbean region. The Bahamas, which technically are in the Atlantic rather than the Caribbean, remain popular because they are easy to reach from the U.S. They are also a common stop for Caribbean cruises and a popular golf destination. In late October, the penguins of South Georgia begin their mating and courtship rituals, and the first expeditions to the Antarctic Peninsula begin to hack their way through sea ice. September is also a great month to explore the Seychelles by boat, as its summer winds have subsided, and sea life is in abundance.
Nearly every month has something to recommend it, depending on what you're looking for. The best time to book a cruise is when you've done your planning, picked a ship and found a cruise fare that fits your budget and offers good value. But that doesn't stop vacationers from wondering if they'd find a cheaper price if they wait to book tomorrow, next week or next month. People often wonder if there is a specific day of the week when cruise prices consistently drop. Unfortunately, fares don't rise and fall on a set schedule, and it's impossible to predict when they'll change. One 2016 study by CruiseWatch.com found that, on average, cruise fares dropped the most on Thursdays.
Wave season may be a popular time to find cruise deals, but not every company releases its best deals and promotions during that period. Sales (or lack thereof) are often based on what is and isn't selling. If a cruise is filling up quickly, the company has no reason to release a sale to entice customers. But if a cruise's departure date is fast approaching and the ship is only partially booked, prices will drop and complimentary add-ons will increase, resulting in some happy customers. While there isn't a "best time of the month" to book a cruise, monitoring fare changes over several weeks can help you spot any price drops. Cruise prices fluctuate frequently based on availability, demand, and special deals.
The height of the cruise season in Australia and New Zealand begins in early October and runs through the end of April because these months are spring and summer in the Southern Hemisphere. The spring (April and May) and the fall (September and October) afford some of the best weather in the Mediterranean, with sunny days and comfortable temperatures. Though the busiest season for Mediterranean cruises is typically July and August, the temperatures can be unbearably hot (85 degrees and higher). July is the height of peak season, with the warmest weather of the year and long daylight hours. It's also the best month for wildlife viewing, especially for humpback whales, brown and black bears and migrating shorebirds and puffins.
As another benefit, airfare tends to be much cheaper in the spring and fall compared to the summer months. This would be disastrous for the cruise lines, who want you to book as soon as possible. In fact, some lines refuse to drop prices any lower once the cruise gets within a few weeks of departure.
You can find 9-night cruises priced around $750 per person or 13-night cruises that begin at $1,165 each. In 2024, they are only offering Hawaii cruises in April, September, and October. Moreover, none of them are round-trip sailings; they are repositioning cruises. As fall rolls around, prices will begin to increase due to the peak foliage opportunities, and while many families may not be onboard, you can expect crowds in port. Cruises to Canada and New England typically operate between the months of May and October. Sailings in the latter half of the season are popular because of the fall foliage.
Now, it might be the itinerary I'm looking at won't be popular, and the cruise line will lower the fare closer to sailing. Or, the itinerary will sell well, and prices will only go up from the original price. I can't know for sure, though I can guess that peak-season trips to popular destinations on a newer cruise ship are more likely to sell quickly. Christmas and New Year's cruises, top suites and limited specialty cabins (such as solo and family cabins) also tend to sell out early.
Because of this, both Royal Caribbean and Norwegian Cruise Line offer loyalty programs to all their guests. The more that a guest cruises with one or both of these cruise lines, the more points they earn. The more points guests earn the more exclusive benefits they can enjoy on future cruises.

Norwegian Cruise Line vs. Royal Caribbean: Fleet Size, Age and Passenger Capacity
When it comes to price and value, there isn’t much of a difference between the two. You’ll have similar inclusions in both cruise fares (dependent on current promotions), and you’ll have to budget for similar things like your alcohol, Wi-Fi, specialty dining, and shore excursions. On average, Royal Caribbean charges more per day than Norweigan cruises, but this varies by vessel. If you prefer to sail on Royal Caribbean, they only offer Hawaiian cruises at the start and end of Alaska season as the ships reposition to the Pacific Northwest.
Norwegian Cruise Line Dining vs. Royal Caribbean Dining : Which is Better?
Norwegian offers a similar option on four ships, although those sailing out of Seattle don’t sail to Anchorage but require a fight instead. If you stay in a Haven suite, you’ll have access to the Haven observation lounge for a less crowded viewing experience. With a go-cart track, aqua racer, and laser tag, the kids will never be bored on sea days. Norwegian calls theirs Great Stirrup Cay, and CocoCay belongs to Royal Caribbean International. Ironically, the islands sit side-by-side, 140 miles east of Miami, Florida, and are parts of the Bahamas. While some of these thrill-seeking activities incur an extra fee, the next one is included in your cruise fare.
Ship and Fleet Size:
While you can choose to skip dinner and eat elsewhere, the assigned time and eating does offer you a schedule that you can count on. Multi-generational travel is growing in popularity with active grandparents wanting to travel, together with the kids and grandkids, in search of adventure. Norwegian Cruise Lines' 19 ships offer the perfect solution for shipboard activities and destinations to please everyone.
Both complimentary and specialty buffets and restaurants offer quality family time around the table. If adult-only time is preferable, check out Chef's Table for multiple courses paired with the proper wine. On select Royal Caribbean cruise ships, there is a nursery for 6 to 36 month old children.
One of my favorite water slides at sea is the Ocean Loops slide that is available on some Norwegian Cruise Line ships, such as Norwegian Encore and Norwegian Bliss. The Ocean Loops slide features a multi-story free fall drop and two inversion loops for guess to experience. You'll find the most things to do onboard Royal Caribbean's Quantum, Oasis, and Icon Class of ships, as well as Norwegian Cruise Line's Breakaway and Prima Class. Royal Caribbean also offers a variety of other bars and lounges, including the Schooner Bar, inspired by a traditional English pub, and the Boleros Latin-themed bar. Norwegian is also known for its Freestyle Dining concept, which allows passengers to dine whenever and wherever they want, without needing reservations or set dining times. This is perfect for those who want more flexibility in their dining choices.
‘Be on Time!’: Cruisers Show Little Sympathy For NCL Passengers Who Missed Ship
Its Icon-class ship is the largest cruise liner in the world (with a second, Star of the Seas, on the way), measuring more than 1,000 feet and 250,000 tons. Check out the message boards for Royal Caribbean and you’re likely to hear a lot about Platinum, Diamond, and Pinnacle status in the Crown and Anchor Society. These are levels of the cruise line’s loyalty program, which indicate how many days you’ve sailed with them. Anecdotally, we’ve found status to be flaunted much more on Royal Caribbean than on Norwegian.
Norwegian Cruise Line features some full length Broadway stage performances that I have greatly enjoyed. If you are someone looking to take in a great theater show, then Norwegian Cruise Line might catch your eye. When it comes to style and aesthetics, Norwegian Cruise Line tends to be more understated and modern, while Royal Caribbean thrives off of bright colors and eye catching designs. Both of Norwegian Cruise Line’s newer vessels, the Norwegian Prima and Norwegian Viva, display examples of sophisticated and relaxing Scandinavian design. While Royal Caribbean’s newer vessels focus on displaying an atmosphere of fun and excitement to its guests.

In general, Norwegian has fewer alternative dining options than Royal Caribbean; most of them are not included in the price of your cruise fare. Royal Caribbean has a wider array of choices; while you'll still have to shell out extra money for many of them, the line includes a bit more in its fares than Norwegian does. Newer Norwegian ships, however, have more options that are more comparable to the offerings Royal Caribbean has. Furthermore, Royal Caribbean’s family staterooms and suites offer plenty of room for families, and their larger ships boast kid-friendly features like water parks, ice skating rinks, and mini-golf courses.
Norwegian Cruise Line and Royal Caribbean are two well-known and grand cruising lines. Both cruise lines feature large ships in their fleets and focus on providing a magnificent experience to travelers onboard. Both cruise lines also have a long list of exotic itineraries that can easily provide many interesting options to choose from. Norwegian Cruise Line, or NCL, offers sailings to destinations around the world plus exciting entertainment and flexible amenities. NCL is suitable for cruisers of all ages and adventure levels, and it's one of the only non-luxury class cruise lines that doesn't require gratuities (or even recommend them at any particular amount). While being on a ship with 2,000-4,000 other passengers might not appeal to some vacationers, NCL's large ships make it easy to eat, play, and relax in any way you want.
Royal Caribbean International wins the race with the largest cruise ship. The Wonder of the Seas is currently the largest ship in the fleet, with a passenger capacity of almost 7,000. Onboard, these cities at sea offer endless dining choices, Haven suite amenities to make you drool, and family-friendly attractions such as go-carts, laser tag, escape rooms, and 4D theaters. Both cruise lines are magnificent and, in certain areas, seem to be similar to one another.
For example, most cruises offer drink packages for alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, but a few have drink stations where you can get complimentary lemonade, coffee and tea. Other amenities that might be important to you are Wi-Fi, spa services, babysitting, fitness classes, and upgraded dining experiences. You can usually get a decent discount if you sign up for an amenities package before you sail, so keep an eye out for promotions in the months leading up to your sailing. When it comes to nightlife, both these cruise lines do a great job of making sure there is something entertaining for guests to do and see every night of their sailing.
As for gratuities, most cabins see a charge of $20 per person, per day with Norwegian (the price is $25 per person, per day for suites). That price is $18 per person, per day for Royal Caribbean, with those in suites paying $20.50. When it comes to cruising, two of the biggest players are Norwegian Cruise Line and Royal Caribbean. If you are planning to set sail, the odds are high you’ll be at least looking at one of these lines. Norwegian was the first to really elevate its sports decks, placing full-scale go-kart raceways in addition to ropes courses and laser tag arenas in outdoor spaces.
